FAQ

Common questions about running apps here.

What is Jacks Garden?
A place to run your own instances of open-source apps without managing servers.
How is this different from iCloud, Google or other hosts?
Unlike the big clouds, your data lives on your own instance in open-source apps you can export or delete anytime — never scanned or sold. And unlike a server you self-host, updates, backups and single sign-on are all handled for you. See the full comparison.
Is my data safe?
Each app's data lives on its own storage, replicated across machines and backed up off-site following the 3-2-1 backup rule. You can take snapshots and download your data anytime from the app's Settings. Uninstalling an app deletes its data, so download first if you want to keep it.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes. By default an app is reachable at a jacks.garden subdomain; from its Settings you can point your own domain at it and get automatic HTTPS.
